In this job, you will perform essentially the same tasks as a civilian electrician. You will install, service, modify and repair electrical equipment and systems. You will troubleshoot and repair electrical and industrial electronic circuits and equipment. As a power lineman, you will perform basically the same job as a civilian would, working for a power company in your hometown. Should any of the overhead or underground electrical systems fail, you will be required to repair them to restore electrical service to those facilities affected. You will be trained to climb poles to the height of 40 feet using gaffs. This pole-climbing training will allow you to then continue in the course to learn to install, maintain and repair overhead distribution systems required for AFSC award. In addition to the distribution system, you will also receive training on the installation and maintenance of airfield lighting systems as well as other specialized electrical systems that are serviced by the electrical power lineman on military installations.
