Command post positions are in Air Force operations centers that are located worldwide. You could work at a base with only a few aircraft, at a base with both aircraft and missiles, at the headquarters of a major command or Air Force Headquarters. In addition, if qualified, you can perform your command post position as an aircrew member. All of these operations centers are linked together by telephone networks, radio communications, computers and alerting systems. Commanders throughout the Air Force are constantly kept advised by the operations centers of the status of aircraft that are flying, on ground alert or in routine maintenance. As a command post apprentice, you will also operate this equipment to control the launch of missiles; direct the takeoff and monitor the location of aircraft; and to put into action plans and orders for such things as aircraft emergencies, civil disasters and high-priority activities that could affect the survival of our nation. The standards of selection of command post apprentice are extremely high, since the effectiveness of the Air Force depends upon their capable and timely response to emergency situations. PAY CHART
