The dental laboratory specialty is an integral element of dental services. The training provided in the career field can be directly utilized in pursuit of national certification as a Certified Dental Technician. This certification is coveted in both the military and civilian laboratory environment. Dental laboratory apprentices are assigned to various-sized dental laboratories from small two-/three-person labs to area dental laboratories that have over 80 personnel assigned. Training requirements allow the apprentice to have exposure to the entire spectrum of the dental laboratory specialty. As a dental laboratory apprentice, you will fabricate and repair complete dentures (artificial teeth), removable partial dentures (replace some missing teeth with artificial teeth), metal or porcelain crowns (caps), fixed partial dentures (bridges), orthodontic devices, mouth guards and other types of appliances designed to restore the appearance, function and health of a patient's mouth. Using a wide variety of dental laboratory equipment and materials such as wax, acrylic, gypsum, gold and nickel-chrome alloys, you will accomplish work prescribed by a dental officer. As you acquire knowledge and skill through formal training and experience, you will become a master craftsman in the skillful art of dental laboratory technology. PAY CHART
