Under the supervision of a physician, you will perform various administrative tasks in addition to preparing patients with ear, nose and throat (ENT) problems for medical examinations and procedures. Also, you will screen patient records, take medical histories and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of common ENT problems. You will also perform various types of hearing tests, assist in evaluation of patients for hearing aids, make ear mold impressions and fit hearing aids. Additionally, you will evaluate profile information and make recommendations for patients referred under the Hearing Conservation Program. You will make microscopic examinations of special surgical instruments and maintain specialized surgical packs for each type of surgical procedure. Periodically, you will check specialized clinic equipment and ensure that the equipment operates properly. You will also set up the operating room, transfer patients to the operating table, assist the anesthetist in controlling the patient, adjust operating lights and equipment and remain alert during an operation to anticipate possible emergencies. You will perform sterile and nonsterile functions during surgery and assist in patient care following surgery, including application and removal of packs and dressings and providing other wound care as directed.
