Paralegal Apprentice

As an Air Force paralegal, you play a very prominent role in the military legal system through which the Air Force maintains good order and discipline.

Under the supervision of judge advocates (attorneys), you'll assist in providing legal services to clients and legal counsel to commanders and other leaders on a broad spectrum of matters around the world.

Paralegals support virtually all areas of the Air Force's legal practice, including operations law, military justice (criminal law), claims, civil law, legal assistance, contracts, labor law and environmental law. You'll be responsible for conducting legal research, interviewing witnesses and victims and drafting opinions and documents, as well as administratively processing cases. You may also be involved in investigations of serious incidents, such as aircraft, missile or rocket accidents.

Most paralegals enter the career field from the active-duty force voluntarily through retraining. However, a limited number of paralegals are interviewed and selected during Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Those arriving at BMT in the general aptitude index and possessing the qualifying skills may be eligible for consideration during the job classification process.

Once selected, you'll attend the Air Force Judge Advocate General's School at Maxwell Air Force Base, AL, for the paralegal apprentice course. The six-week course includes training on civil law administration, military justice administration and claims. PAY CHART
