Public Health Apprentice

This job is similar to working in a federal, state, county or city public health department. If you are interested in helping people and educating them on how to remain healthy, this is an excellent opportunity for you. Airmen are asked to work independently and use their knowledge and judgment early in their careers. You will have frequent face-to-face contact with patients and workers from every career field in the Air Force. Computers and computer products are used frequently in the job. Listed below are four major areas of responsibility.

1. COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL: Interview, educate and ensure proper treatment of patients with sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, hepatitis and other diseases transmitted to humans. Collects, identify and recommend control of vectors (mosquitoes, rodents, etc.) and plants that can spread disease to humans.
2. FACILITY SANITATION: Evaluate food service and public facilities (e.g., restaurants, clubs, childcare facilities, housing, gyms, etc.) for sanitary standards. Educate people in correct sanitary practices.
3. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH: Help develop and monitor physical exam requirements and occupational health education for workers exposed to physical, biological and chemical hazards in their workplace. This job includes everything from educating workers on how to wear earplugs to investigating exposures to hazardous chemicals.
4. FOOD INSPECTION: Inspect food to ensure quality and wholesomeness (prevention of foodborne illness). PAY CHART
