Into the Storm

IT TAKES A TEAM

In addition to Special Warfare, there are two other careers that contribute to the
overall success of combat missions.

SURVIVAL EVASION RESISTANCE ESCAPE (SERE)

These Airmen are experts in survival and can withstand the harshest environments, from the arctic to the desert. In addition to shelter building, water and food collection and navigation, they teach their fellow Airmen how to return with honor if caught in enemy territory.

EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL (EOD)

Airmen in this career field operate advanced technology, including robots, to dispose of dangerous explosives like IEDs. In some instances, they wear protective suits to dispose of ordnance with their own hands.

THERE ARE 4 DISTINCT SPECIAL WARFARE CAREERS.

  • TACTICAL AIR CONTROL PARTY (TACP)

Experts in coordinating ground weapons and precision airstrikes, TACPs embed with other teams across branches to contribute their unique skills. These Airmen ensure targets are taken care of effectively and accurately.

  • COMBAT CONTROL (CCT)

CCTs are the first to arrive at any scene and do whatever it takes to clear the way for others to follow safely. In addition to being combat experts, these Airmen are certified air traffic controllers who guide and land aircraft in austere locations.

  • PARARESCUE (PJ)

PJs are highly trained to rescue anyone, anywhere, any time. Experts in personnel recovery and combat search and rescue, these Airmen combine medical expertise with the strength and smarts needed in combat.

  • SPECIAL RECONNAISSANCE (SR)

SR specialists deploy deep behind enemy lines to collect and exploit critical intelligence. These Airmen operate cutting-edge technology to develop targets, tilt the battlespace in our favor and ultimately achieve mission success.
