Minnesota State Benefits
Air National Guard members are paid equally based on their rank and years of service. You’re also eligible for additional compensation based on your position and where you’re stationed.

01 Education Benefits
Minnesota's State Tuition Reimbursement (STR) program reimburses paid tuition costs for up to 144 semester credits taken by the service member (or their spouse after the member serves at least eight years in the Minnesota Air National Guard) at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. STR will reimburse up to 100% of the undergraduate and 75% of the graduate rates. Members who have achieved veteran status can take advantage of the Minnesota GI Bill which includes reimbursement for $500/semester for part-time students or $1,000/semester for full-time students (with a maximum lifetime program payout of $10,000).

02 MEDICAL BENEFITS
Members have the option to purchase Tricare health insurance while or after they serve. Various Veteran Affairs clinics throughout the state are available to eligible members/veterans as well.

03 STATE TAX ADVANTAGE
Military pay, including military retirement pay, is not taxed by the state of Minnesota. If you served in a qualifying combat zone (or hazardous duty area) and are a resident of Minnesota, you may qualify for a $120 tax credit for each month you served there. You can qualify for this benefit even if you owe no tax. Eligible areas include Afghanistan, Kosovo, the Arabian Peninsula, former Yugoslavia and the Sinai Peninsula.

04 Recreation Benefits
Minnesota Air National Guard members have full access to the Military Welfare and Recreation (MWR) center in the Twin Cities area. Members can rent outdoor equipment and purchase discounted tickets for popular attractions, both locally and nationally.

Full time Federal Technician employees with the Minnesota Air National Guard are able to take advantage of paid military leave during times they’re on orders serving in their military role.
