New Mexico State Benefits
Air National Guard members are paid equally based on their rank and years of service. You’re also eligible for additional compensation based on your position and where you’re stationed.

01 Education Benefits
New Mexico Air National Guard members pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree can recieve a state scholarship that provides tuition, fees and book allowances to war veterans certified by the New Mexico Veterans' Service Commission. In-state residency status for veterans, spouses, and children can now take advantage of residency rates at any state-funded college, university, or vocational school/training program.

02 STATE TAX ADVANTAGE
New Mexico Air National Guard members pay absolutely no state income tax on their military pay. Up to $4,000 of the property's taxable value is tax-excempt. 100% permanent and total service-connected disability may be exempt from property taxation if the disabled veteran occupies it as the veteran's principal place of residence.

03 Retirement Benefits
New Mexico authorizes an income tax exemption on military retired pay. In 2023, that is $20,000; in 2024 through 2026 tax year, it is $30,000.

04 Recreation Benefits
Air National Guard members are able to utilize the outdor recreation rentals at Air Force bases in New Mexico including hiking, camping, cycling, canoeing, RVs, and more. Residents rated 50% or higher with a service-connected disability may obtain a free state monument and museum pass, an annual free day-use pass, and three one-day camping passes from the state recreational facilities. Reduced fee for hunting and fishing licenses and lifetime hunting and fishing licenses for disabled veterans who are 100% service-connected disabled.

05 Leave Program
All state, county, municipal, school district, and other public employees who are Service members in the National Guard are authorized 15 days of paid military leave per federal fiscal year.

06 Comprehensive Benefits
Children of deceased service members may be admitted to state educational institutions free of tuition. The state operates three veterans cemeteries in Angel Fire, Ft. Stanton, and Gallup. They are open to honorably discharged veterans and their spouses. Several voluntary group life policies designed to help meet the needs of National Guard Service members and their Families. Every member of the New Mexico National Guard is covered with $1,000 state-sponsored life insurance at no cost to the service member.

07 MISCELLANEOUS
Children of an Air National Guard member who is transferred to a New Mexico military facility recieve priority enrollment status to the New Mexico school system. Service members recieve hiring preference when they apply for public employment. New Mexico Air Guard members also have exclusive free access to distinctive auto plates.
