Washington State Benefits
Air National Guard members are paid equally based on their rank and years of service. You’re also eligible for additional compensation based on your position and where you’re stationed.

01 Education Benefits
The Washington Air National Guard offers the Post Secondary Grant in which Washington State community colleges, colleges and universities will waive all or a portion of tuition and fees for eligible Component Service members for up to 200 quarter credits or equivalent semester credits. The state will also provide a $500 per year stipend for textbooks and course materials.

02 State Tax Benefits
There is no individual state income tax in Washington.

03 Recreation Benefits
Washington Air National Guard members are afforded access to all Military Welfare and Recreation (MWR) resources and facilities, and half price hunting and fishing licenses from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. Members are also eligible for a free annual hunting license package that includes a big-game license and a small game license with a migratory bird permit.

04 Leave Program
Washington Air National Guard members can receive military leave with pay for up to 21 working days during each fiscal year. This leave can be used for required military duty, training or drills.

05 HOME LOANS
The Veterans Down Payment Assistance Loan Program is a down payment assistance, second mortgage program with a 3.00% interest rate and payments deferred for up to 30 years for Washington State Veterans. This program combines with the Home Advantage first mortgage loan program. Eligible households may qualify for a maximum loan amount of up to $10,000.

06 MISCELLANEOUS
Washington offers Veteran hiring preference for eligible veterans and their spouses. Applicants must meet the requirements for the position and be able to perform the duties required. Washington law authorizes each country to establish a Veteran’s assistance program to address the needs of local Veterans and their families.
